The Canary Islands are part of the Kingdom of Spain, therefore the same visa conditions apply for the entry of tourists into the territory of the Canary Islands as for the entry into the territory of the Kingdom of Spain.

Visa conditions

Entry to the Canary Islands requires a valid passport or identity card stating the nationality of the holder of this document, without a specified minimum period of validity of the document when entering or leaving the country.

Every person aged 0 and over entering the Canary Islands must have his / her own travel document.

The maximum length of stay in the Canary Islands without interruption is 90 days. In case of a longer stay, it is necessary to register with the Aliens Police.

Customs conditions

As the Canary Islands are not part of the European customs union, tobacco and alcohol imports are subject to the same rules when traveling from EU countries as when traveling from other parts of the world.

The passenger can bring for his own needs a maximum of:

  • 200 cigarettes;
  • or 100 cigarillos;
  • or 50 cigars;
  • or 250 grams of tobacco;
  • 1 liter of hard alcohol with an alcohol content of 22% or more;
  • or 2 liters of hard alcohol with an alcohol content of 22% or of sparkling wine or liqueurs;
  • 4 liters of wine;
  • 16 liters of beer.

There is an unlimited amount of medicines that are intended for personal use, and the amount of medicines must take into account the expected length of stay.

Pets are allowed through authorized airports and ports:

  • Las Plamas de Gran Canaria Airport (LPS);
  • Tenerife Norte Los Rodeos Airport (TFN);
  • Tenerife Sur Reina Sofia Airport (TFS);
  • the port of Las Palmas – Puerto de La Luz;
  • port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

QR code

Every passenger arriving in the Canary Islands, as well as the Kingdom of Spain, must present a QR code upon arrival.

Before the trip, you need to visit https://www.spth.gob.es/ or download the mobile application. From 48 hours before departure, it is necessary to enter travel data, on the basis of which the passenger will receive the QR code needed to enter the islands.

The QR code must be in printed form or in digital form in the application on the mobile device.

COVID-19 tests

Starting on 14 November, every tourist who is accommodated in an official tourist facility is obliged to prove himself / herself with a negative COVID test upon arrival at the facility.

Diagnostic PCR tests to determine the active state of infectivity are accepted. The tests must be approved in the EU. According to the Decree of the Ministry of Health of 2 November 2020, rapid antigen tests have not yet been accepted. Serological tests for the presence of antibodies are also not accepted.

The obligation applies to all tourists, regardless of their country of residence, including citizens of the Kingdom of Shapniel, with the exception of Canarians who state in the form of a solemn declaration that they have stayed exclusively in the Canary Islands for 15 days or more before arrival.

The obligation applies to all official tourist facilities, which are:

  • hotels;
  • aparthotels;
  • apartments;
  • hostels;
  • tourist resorts;
  • shared dormitories;
  • country houses (casa rural);
  • holiday accommodation (vivienda vacacional).

The test must not be older than 72 hours before arrival in the Canary Islands.

Every person older than 6 years is obliged to submit a test.

The accommodation facility must not accommodate a tourist who cannot prove a negative test for COVID-19.

A paper or digital certificate is required to prove that the diagnostic test has been performed. This must include the date and time when the test was performed, the identification of the person, the identification of the authorized verification center and the negative result of the test. The certificate may be in Spanish or English.

If the conditions of the facility allow, the facility may or may not allow the tourist to stay in the isolation room without a negative test. The tourist may not leave the room until receiving the negative test, except for the test trip.

Tourists on holiday in two different facilities within the Canary Islands do not need a second test for a second facility. They shall be proved by a test valid at the time of arrival in the Canary Islands and proof of accommodation in the previous establishment. The condition is that the accommodation must follow immediately and the tourist has not left the territory of the Canary Islands.

If a tourist traveling to the Canary Islands is staying with his family or acquaintances or in a property he owns, a negative test is not required.

Radar Covid

Tourists are advised to install the Covid Radar application.

COVID radar is an application that has been programmed to identify as risky contacts those people whose devices were found more than 15 minutes away from the devices of people diagnosed with COVID-19. These 15 minutes are calculated as the accumulated time in 24 hours.

It is recommended to leave the application installed on your mobile device for another 15 days after returning from the Canary Islands.

COVID-19 insurance

The advantage of staying in a licensed facility is Canarias Covid insurance, which was taken out by the Canary Government with AXA and only applies to stays in licensed facilities.

This insurance covers:

  • hospital bills due to Covid-19;
  • if necessary, repatriation to the place of usual residence.

Epidemiological measures related to COVID-19

The following anti-epidemiological measures have been taken in the Canary Islands in relation to the occurrence of COVID-19:

Measures that apply generally

  • The social distance or interpersonal distance is set at 1.5 meters.
  • The use of the mask is mandatory for adults and children over 6 years of age on public roads, in open spaces and in any publicly used enclosed space or in any publicly accessible place, regardless of maintaining interpersonal safety. distance of at least 1.5 meters.
  • Proper use of the mask is mandatory, it must constantly cover the nose and mouth.
  • Frequent hand washing (with soap and water or hydroalcoholic hand disinfectant gel) is recommended.
  • Smoking, the use of tobacco inhalation devices, hookahs, hookahs, hookahs or similar devices is not permitted on public roads and outdoors, unless an interpersonal safety distance of 2 meters can be guaranteed.

Public transport

  • In all forms of public transport, service companies are obliged to comply with a number of necessary health and hygiene measures.
  • Seating is regulated in order to maintain a social distance.
  • Payment of the fare is only possible in the form of prepaid carrier cards. In Gran Canaria, payment by credit card is also possible.

Accomodation

  • In common areas, capacity is limited to allow the required social distance to be maintained; this is the case with various fun activities and group courses.
  • Hydro-alcoholic gels for hand disinfection are installed in the dining areas at the entrance, the tables are 1.5 meters apart and are cleaned and disinfected between clients. Elements of common use, such as napkin racks or toothpicks, have been eliminated.
  • Buffet bars must be separated from clients by a protective screen and must offer pre-prepared or fresh products in separate and individually stored containers (plates, bowls,…).

Pools

  • Limited capacity, depending on available sunbeds, while respecting social distance measures for the family unit.
  • They must be disinfected every day.

Beaches and natural swimming pools

  • There are capacity restrictions (4 m2 per person).
  • A distance of 1.5 m between groups of sunbeds and parasols is mandatory and disinfection is required and their regular disinfection.
  • On beaches and swimming pools, there is an exemption from the obligation to wear a mask while swimming and staying in a certain area without moving to another place, provided that it is possible to guarantee respect for the interpersonal safety distance between all users who do not live in the same household.
  • The use of a mask is mandatory on all access roads and during walks in these areas, with the exception of the road to and from the water.

Restaurants

  • The minimum distance between the tables is 1.5 m.
  • All products for common use, such as napkin racks, sugar bowls, salt shakers, etc. were excluded.
  • Drinks and menus are replaced by either QR codes or menus on the boards.
  • At the entrance it is obligatory to use a hydroalcoholic gel for hand disinfection.
  • In hotel and restaurant facilities and services, including bars and cafes, it is an exception to the obligation to wear a mask only when eating or drinking.
  • The maximum occupancy of one table or group of tables indoors and outdoors is ten people (Tenerife six people).
  • The opening hours of bars and restaurants can be up to 01:00 at the latest, while the last customer can enter the facility at 00:00. (Tenerife 00:00 and 23:00)
